Give Your Readers A Little Test!

This article (or the links at the end), will display a little quiz, or exam test component. Oh heck... here are the links if you just want to rush into it:

Some of you have a Learning & Development website, or a Training site, or a site which presents some sort of course to your clients.

You can possibly use this quiz / exam in determining how well your clients are receiving the information you present.

Online quiz tools are commonly used in online education.

You can make these quiz / exams either:

  • SERIOUS, where pass scores are recorded, and certificates presented for successful completion,    or
  • FUN, where the quiz is simply a Question & Answer thing, done more for the fun and enjoyment than anything else

Why Use A Quiz / Test

There are many good reasons to use such a component, other than the simply fun of doing it.

Some of these reasons include:

  • While presenting your course, you can use a quiz at various stages, to review what was learned. Repetition is an important element of learning, and one way to repeat content is through quizzes.
  • A Quiz or exam can be used to motivate learners, help them remember what they learned, and assess what they learned.
  • Online quizzes provide a major benefit to students: the opportunity to learn from instant feedback.
  • They provide opportunities for self and peer assessment.
  • They provide opportunities for timely and detailed feedback to both the student, AND to you as the presenter - this can help YOU develop your course
  • They provide an aid for revision ---- the student can, if you wish, take the quiz many times in the days / weeks after the course was presented.
    • this will increase the benefit to the students of your course

You can also use a quiz as a means of gauging the readiness of your students to even take your course. For example, you might have a situation where the students need to have some sort of understanding of the subject before attending the course.

In this case, you can use a quiz to determine their level of understanding beforehand.

Types Of Questions

The quiz has many types of questions, any or all of which can be "scored" with points allocated for correct answers, and 0 for incorrect answers. You can even get very creative, and allocate a penalty for incorrect answers. This can make things very interesting!

The type of questions include:

  • Multiple Choice - a question with only one correct answer
  • Multiple Response - a question with a number of correct answers
  • True/False- a simple True / False answer
  • Matching Drag&Drop- a question where the user drags the correct answer from a list of possible answers
  • Matching Drop-Down- where the user selects the correct answer from a drop-down list
  • Fill in the blank- a question where the user actually types in the correct answer
  • Hotspot- a question with an image, where the user clicks on a spot on the image, which you have previously defined, eg, on a map of the world, click on Australia
  • Multiple question- a question with only one correct answer
  • Boilerplate- basically, not a question at all, more a statement to the user
  • Surveys- simply to collect information

Certificates

Certificates  can be awarded to successfull completion of the various quizzes. At the moment, there are 3 basic ones, but more can be added or developed as required.

The certificates can be customised with your logo and website name.
